Hot Wheels – '69 Ford Mustang Boss 302


Scale model of an automobile ¹, the '69 Ford Mustang Boss 302, made by Hot Wheels. This example is reference 5, included in the "2015 HW Workshop – Speed Team" series. It is also included in the "2015 Super Treasure Hunts" series. It is made in Malaysia. Metal body painted in metallic brownish orange (HW "Spectraflame Orange") and black, with printed details, including the distinctive side graphics and "BOSS 302" signature. In the Hot Wheels context, the "TH" signature confirms this is a "Super Treasure Hunt" version of a mainline model. Black plastic base. Glazing represented in black tinted transparent plastic with details molded in the windshield and rear window. Interior details in black plastic. Gray plastic rims (RR8SP), rubber tires with printed details. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:64 and the overall length is approximately 3 in. About 1.5 oz. This model presumably represents the road version of a race car intended for the "Trans-Am Championship", the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302, equipped with the 302 cu in (4.9 L) Ford Boss 302 OHV "V8" engine. In the road version, this engine was rated at 290 hp (216 kW). ●

Na versão de estrada, este motor dispunha de 290 hp (216 kW). ●

¹ I assume that in this case, Hot Wheels intends to represent the homologation version, the road version of the Ford Mustang Boss 302, while maintaining the interior of the race car for manufacturing reasons. Therefore, I choose to classify this model as an "automobile", rather than a "race car". ● Presumo que neste caso, a Hot Wheels pretenda representar a versão para homologação, a versão de estrada do Ford Mustang Boss 302, mantendo todavia por questões de fabrico o interior do carro de corrida. How much? 

Several readers have asked me to include the market value of the items described. In fact, and as most collectors will agree – an item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. However, most collectors will also agree on average values, based on objective notions of relevance, scarcity and conservation. Therefore, and as I know that these requests for market values will not stop, I will occasionally include, not necessarily the market value, but rather, based on my perception of the markets over the last thirty years, the value that, hypothetically and at the time of publication, I am willing to pay for the item described. In this case and in Portugal, I will pay up to €45 for a '69 Ford Mustang Boss 302 by Hot Wheels, loose and in good condition, or up to €75 if boxed and in perfect condition. Metal body painted in yellow, including fenders and running boards. Rear-mounted spare tire. Metal base, unpainted. Windshield represented entirely in yellow tinted transparent plastic. Interior details in black plastic. Plastic wheels with "chrome" details simulating the rims. With suspension. The nominal scale is 1:57 and the overall length is approximately 2.7 in. About 1.2 oz. This model represents an automobile, possibly a 1968 Morgan Plus 8 roadster, equipped with the 215.5 cu in (3532 cm³), 168 hp (125 kW) Rover "V8" engine (derived from the Buick Fireball 215).
