Norev – Renault 4CV
Scale model of an automobile, the Renault 4CV, made by Norev. This example is reference 423395, included in the "Renault Toys – Les P'tites Mythiques" series. It is made in China, I don't know its production period. Metal body painted in cream, with printed details. Black plastic base. Glazing represented in transparent plastic with details molded in the windshield. Interior details in black plastic. Detailed plastic rims with "chrome" finish, plastic tires with molded details. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:54 and the overall length is approximately 2.8 in. About 1.1 oz. This model represents an automobile, the 1946 Renault 4 CV ¹, equipped with the 760 cm³, 19 hp (14 kW) Renault Billancourt "L4" engine. Top speed around 56 mph.
In the mid-seventies, when my interest in vehicles intensified, the heyday of the Renault 4 CV, or "joaninhas" (ladybugs), as I heard them called in Portugal ², was already a distant memory. Those I still saw on the streets were sometimes lovingly cared for, sometimes crumpled and rusty, some on the verge of collapse. But, their owners told me, they were always valiant little cars. The miniature version offered by Norev is irresistible. The casting is of good quality and captures the proportions of the Renault "joaninha" well. In terms of stance, the rear seems a bit too high. As with other Norev models, the plastic headlights are an excellent choice. The paint is somewhat thick, and once again compromised by several splatters, but the application of the printed details is excellent, especially the treatment of the grille, impeccable in my example. The treatment given to the interior is excellent—the choice of gray or brown plastic would help to better visualize and appreciate all the details, deservedly so. The bumpers are well made, as are the wheels, although the latter's "road handling" could be better. I don't know if this is a very desirable model for kids, but for some adult collectors of post-war popular classics and, above all, for loyal Renault enthusiasts, it is certainly irresistible. ●

É feito na China, desconheço o seu período de produção. Carroçaria em metal pintada em creme, com detalhes impressos. Base em plástico preto. Vidros representados em plástico transparente com detalhes moldados no pára-brisas. Detalhes interiores em plástico preto. Jantes detalhadas em plástico com acabamento "cromado", pneus em plástico com detalhes moldados. Sem suspensão. A escala nominal é 1:54 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 71 mm. Cerca de 30 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, o Renault 4 CV ¹ de 1946, equipado com o motor Renault Billancourt "L4" de 760 cm³ e 19 hp (14 kW). Velocidade máxima na ordem dos 90 km/h.
Em meados dos anos setenta, quando o meu interesse por veículos se intensificou, já o apogeu dos Renault 4 CV, ou "joaninhas" como lhes ouvia chamar em Portugal ², era uma memória distante. Os que ainda via pelas ruas mostravam-se ora carinhosamente cuidados, ora amarrotados e ferrugentos, alguns no limiar das suas forças. Mas, diziam-me os seus proprietários, eram sempre carrinhos valentes. A versão em miniatura proposta pela Norev é irresistível. O molde é de boa qualidade e capta bem as proporções do Renault "joaninha". Em termos de postura, a traseira parece-me demasiado sobrelevada. Tal como em outros modelos da Norev, os faróis em plástico são uma excelente opção. Quanto à pintura é algo espessa e mais uma vez comprometida por diversos salpicos, mas a aplicação dos detalhes impressos é excelente, sobretudo o tratamento da grelha, impecável no meu exemplar. O tratamento dado ao interior é excelente—a escolha de um plástico cinzento ou castanho ajudaria a melhor visualizar e valorizar todos os detalhes, merecidamente. Os pára-choques estão bem conseguidos, assim como as rodas, mesmo que nestas o "comportamento de estrada" pudesse ser melhor. Não sei se para os miúdos este é um modelo muito apetecido, mas para alguns adultos coleccionadores de clássicos populares do pós-guerra e, sobretudo, para os fiéis entusiastas da Renault, é certamente irresistível. ●

² In the aftermath of the Second World War, Renault gained access to a significant amount of paint intended by the German army for Afrika Korps vehicles, pragmatically reusing it for its assembly lines. Subsequently, the first 4 CVs came out painted in sand-yellow (color also described as cream or beige), which, combined with the rounded shape of the body, earned them in France the mischievous nickname "mottes de beurre" (lumps of butter). In Portugal, the 4 CVs became known mainly by the nickname "joaninhas" (ladybugs). ● No rescaldo da segunda guerra, a Renault teve acesso a uma boa quantidade de tinta destinada pelo exército alemão aos veículos do Afrika Korps, reaproveitando-a pragmaticamente para as suas linhas de montagem. Subsequentemente, os primeiros 4 CV saíram pintados em amarelo-areia (cor também descrita como creme ou beje) o que, aliado à forma arredondada da carroçaria, lhes valeu em França o malicioso cognome de "mottes de beurre" (pedaços ou montes de manteiga). Em Portugal, os 4 CV ficaram sobretudo conhecidos pelo cognome de "joaninhas".
