Matchbox – Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II

Scale model of an automobile, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, made by Matchbox. This example is reference 39, included in the "1–75 Superfast" series. It is made in England, possibly in 1982. Metal body painted in brownish gold. Metal base, unpainted. Glazing represented in transparent plastic, with  details molded in the windshield. Interior details in white (ivory) plastic. Plastic wheels with "chrome" details simulating the rims. With suspension. Opening front doors. License plate "GNF 40T". The nominal scale is 1:67 and the overall length is approximately 3.1 in. About 1.7 oz. This model represents an automobile, the 1977 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, equipped with the 412 cu in (6750 cm³), 200 hp (149 kW) Rolls-Royce L410 "V8" engine.

With the charming Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, reference 24 from Matchbox, already in my garage, I decided in 1982 to follow the trend and acquire its successor, updated in 1:1 scale in 1977 and soon after in miniature by Matchbox, with the introduction of reference 39 in 1979. The new model has an excellent presence and despite some imperfections in the finish, the casting is of good quality and the doors work well. The proportions look correct and even reproduce the subtle and distinctive arch of the shoulder line. The paintwork, well applied, displays a pleasant semi-gloss finish and the white (or ivory) plastic interior suggests the comfort of the prototype. But what surprises me most is the suspension – deliberately or by chance, it is astonishingly smooth. It rolls so well that I actually consider using this model for dirt or curbside races. Eventually the delirium passes and this distinguished Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow will end up enjoying a discreet and quiet life in my garage. ●

É feito em Inglaterra, possivelmente em 1982. Carroçaria em metal pintada em dourado. Base em metal, sem pintura. Vidros representados em plástico transparente, com detalhes moldados no pára-brisas. Detalhes interiores em plástico branco (marfim). Rodas em plástico com detalhes "cromados" a simular as jantes. Com suspensão. Abre as portas da frente. Matrícula "GNF 40T". A escala nominal é 1:67 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 78 mm. Cerca de 47 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, o Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II de 1977, equipado com o motor  Rolls-Royce L410 "V8" de 412 cu in (6750 cm³) e 200 hp (149 kW).

Já com o encantador Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, referência 24 da Matchbox, na minha garagem, decido em 1982 seguir a tendência e adquirir o seu sucessor, actualizado na escala 1:1 em 1977 e logo depois em miniatura pela Matchbox , com a introdução da referência 39 em 1979. O novo modelo tem uma excelente presença e apesar de algumas imperfeições no acabamento, o molde é de boa qualidade e as portas funcionam bem. As proporções parecem correctas e reproduzem mesmo o subtil e distintivo arqueamento da linha de ombro. A pintura, bem aplicada, exibe um agradável acabamento em meio-brilho e o interior em plástico branco (ou marfim) sugere o conforto do protótipo. Mas o que mais me surpreende é suspensão – deliberadamente ou por acaso, é espantosamente suave. Rola tão bem que penso mesmo em utilizar este modelo em corridas na terra ou nas bermas do passeio. Por fim o delírio passa e este distinto Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow acabará por desfrutar de uma vida discreta e tranquila na minha garagem. ●
