Technofix – Auto

Toy representing an automobile, the Auto ¹, made by Technofix. This example is presumably reference GE-313, from the "City Traffic – Drive & Park" set (313). It is made in Germany (Western Germany), possibly in 1966. Metal body (pressed tinplate) lithographed in white, with black top and representation of various details. Metal (tinplate) base. Pressed metal wheels. The left rear wheel benefits from a special construction with a hard rubber rim to increase traction. Wind-up mechanism with "clutch" ². License plate "GE-313". The overall length is approximately 3.1 in. About 1.6 oz. This toy represents an automobile in cartoon style, possibly based on a 1965 Opel Kadett B Coupé 

During the 1970s, I had some curious toys – such as a steam generating plant (Märklin) and some scenic tracks made of pressed and lithographed sheet metal (tinplate), allowing the prodigious automatic movement of road and rail vehicles (Technofix). These scenic tracks proposed varied themes, such as rural or urban routes, rides in amusement parks or loading and unloading maneuvers in industrial environments. The routes were covered by vehicles with wind-up mechanisms. All of them stopped when necessary at predetermined points and some reversed direction of travel. Sometimes, the vehicles activated the movement of accessory elements by means of levers as they passed by. Technofix or Gebrüder Einfalt (GE), founded in Nürnberg, Germany, in the 1920s (1922–1978), was one of the most prolific manufacturers of these toys, and some of them eventually came into my hands. However, I quickly got tired of the limited routes, so the scenic tracks were packed away in cardboard boxes and the cars were allowed to drive freely on other roads. This Auto is one of my favorite vehicles. The lithograph is charming and – some will understand – perfectly reflects the spirit of its time, the "Wirtschaftswunder", the optimism of the German economic miracle after the war. It was originally part of the "City Traffic – Drive & Park" set, reference 313, released in 1966. The scenic track has long since been lost – but this little car still retains all its magic. ●

É feito na Alemanha (Western Germany), possivelmente em 1966. Carroçaria em metal (folha prensada) litografada em branco, com tejadilho preto e representação de vários detalhes. Rodas em metal prensado. A roda traseira do lado esquerdo beneficia de construção especial com um aro em borracha dura para aumentar a tracção. Mecanismo de corda com "embraiagem" ². Matrícula "GE-313". O comprimento total é de aproximadamente 79 mm. Cerca de 46 g. Este brinquedo representa um automóvel em estilo caricatural, possivelmente baseado num Opel Kadett B Coupé de 1965.  

Durante os anos setenta tive alguns brinquedos curiosos – como uma central geradora a vapor (Märklin) e algumas pistas-cenário em folha prensada e litografada, permitindo o prodigioso movimento automático de veículos rodoviários e ferroviários (Technofix). Estas pistas-cenário propunham temas variados, como percursos campestres ou urbanos, voltas em parques de diversão ou manobras de carga e descarga em ambientes industriais. Os percursos eram efectuados por veículos com mecanismos de corda. Todos paravam quando necessário em pontos pré-determinados e alguns invertiam o sentido de marcha. Por vezes, os veículos accionavam à sua passagem, por meio de alavancas, o movimento de elementos acessórios. A Technofix ou Gebrüder Einfalt (GE), fundada em Nürnberg, na Alemanha, nos anos vinte (1922–1978), era um dos mais prolíficos fabricantes destes brinquedos e eventualmente alguns deles chegaram às minhas mãos. Contudo, cansei-me depressa dos percursos com poucas opções, as pistas-cenário foram guardadas nas caixas de cartão e os veículos passaram a circular livremente por outras estradas. Este Auto é um dos meus veículos favoritos. A litografia é encantadora e – alguns entendê-lo-ão – reflecte perfeitamente o espírito do seu tempo, o "Wirtschaftswunder", o optimismo do milagre económico alemão do pós-guerra. Originalmente fazia parte do conjunto "City Traffic – Drive & Park", referência 313, lançada em 1966. A pista-cenário há muito que se perdeu – mas este carrinho preserva ainda toda a sua magia. ●

The body of the vehicle is formed by pressing a single sheet of lithographed metal and then joined to the base equipped with the mechanism. Several German toy manufacturers have excelled at this technique. Kellermann CKO was one of the most notable examples. It closed down, like Technofix, in the late 1970s. ●

A carroçaria do veículo é formada por pressão a partir de uma única folha de metal litografada e de seguida unida à base equipada com o mecanismo. Diversos fabricantes alemães de brinquedos tornaram-se exímios nesta técnica. A Kellermann CKO foi um dos mais notáveis exemplos. Encerrou, tal como a Technofix, no final dos anos setenta. ●

 

The mechanism of this Technofix model manufactured in 1966 still works perfectly. Between the rear wheels and next to the gear wheel, there is the "clutch" tab which, when it reaches an aperture in the road, drops and stops the vehicle. The left-hand rear wheel benefits from a special construction with a hard rubber rim to increase traction. The side pin allows the vehicle to turn to the right, guided by a tab activated at the edge of the curb. ●

O mecanismo deste modelo da Technofix fabricado em 1966 continua a funcionar perfeitamente. Entre as rodas traseiras e ao lado da roda dentada, a patilha da "embraiagem" que, ao chegar a uma abertura na estrada, descai e imobiliza o veículo. A roda traseira do lado esquerdo beneficia de construção especial com um aro em borracha dura para aumentar a tracção. O pino lateral permite ao veículo virar para a direita, guiado por uma patilha activada na berma do passeio. ●
