Norev – Peugeot 205 GTI
Scale model of an automobile, the Peugeot 205 GTI, made by Norev. This example is reference 310504, included in the "Multigam Classic" series. It is made in China in 2017. Metal body painted in red, with printed details, including the characteristic black and red decorative strips. Black plastic base. Glazing represented in transparent plastic with details molded in the windshield and rear window. Interior details in black plastic. Detailed plastic rims with silver finish, plastic tires with molded details. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:54 and the overall length is approximately 2.7 in. About 1.1 oz. This model represents an automobile, possibly the 1988 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9, equipped with the 1905 cm³, 128 hp (93,5 kW) PSA XU9JA "L4" engine. Top speed around 129 mph.
Somehow, I like to think of the golden era of European "hot hatches" as the equivalent of the American "muscle car" era of the sixties. For all intents and purposes, the concept of packing unprecedented power into a small car is common to both movements—with the advantage that European cars allowed for exhilarating driving on twisting country roads. In the 1980s, four cars filled my (possible) dreams—the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the Ford Escort RS Turbo, the Renault 5 GT Turbo, and, in my eyes, the most beautiful of them all, the Peugeot 205 GTI. Unlike exuberant American "muscle cars", European "hot hatches" were, despite some aerodynamic appendages, reasonably understated, dressed in combinations of black, red, silver, and white—manly and utterly irresistible combinations. Especially on twisting country roads, the magic began after just a few miles, and the desire was for the journey to never end. In 2018, when I saw this little Peugeot 205 GTI on the shelf, this was all that came to mind, and I couldn't resist bringing it home. For all intents and purposes, the model is incredible. The casting is excellent and perfectly captures the proportions and stance of the original. I really like the small wing mirrors and the treatment of the discreet spoiler on the trunk lid (or hatch). The paint job is also excellent, as is the application of the printed details, despite one or two minor flaws. The treatment of the B-pillars is enthusiast-grade, as is that of the interior and wheels, especially in this small scale—congratulations, Norev. And in terms of "road holding", does this little "hot hatch" measure up to the original? Unfortunately for the kids, no. For me, it doesn't matter much. I just close my eyes and remember the exhilarating miles behind the wheel of the original. ●

De alguma forma, gosto de pensar na época de ouro dos "hot hatches" europeus como o equivalente à época dos "muscle cars" americanos nos anos sessenta. Para todos os efeitos, o conceito de disponibilizar num carro pequeno potências inauditas é comum a ambos os movimentos—com a vantagem dos carros europeus permitirem a estimulante condução por estradas rurais sinuosas. Nos anos oitenta, quatro carros povoavam os meus sonhos (possíveis) —o Volkswagen Golf GTI, o Ford Escort RS Turbo, o Renault 5 GT Turbo e, aos meus olhos, o mais bonito deles todos, o Peugeot 205 GTI. Ao contrário dos exuberantes "muscle cars" americanos, os "hot hatches" europeus eram, apesar de alguns apêndices aerodinâmicos, razoavelmente discretos, vestidos em combinações de preto, vermelho, prateado e branco—combinações másculas e absolutamente irresistíveis. Sobretudo em estradas de rurais sinuosas, a magia começava ao fim de poucos quilómetros e o desejo era de que a viagem não terminasse nunca. Em 2018, quando vi este pequeno Peugeot 205 GTI na prateleira foi tudo isso que me veio à memória e não resisti e trouxe-o comigo. Para todos os efeitos, a miniatura é espantosa. O molde é excelente e capta na perfeição as proporções e postura do original. Gosto muito dos pequenos espelhos retrovisores e do tratamento dado ao discreto spoiler na tampa da mala. A pintura é também excelente, assim como a aplicação dos detalhes impressos, apesar de uma ou outra pequena falha. O tratamento dado aos pilares "B" é de entusiasta, assim como o dado ao interior ou às rodas, sobretudo a esta pequena escala—parabéns, Norev. E em termos de "comportamento de estrada", está este pequeno "hot hatch" à altura do original? Infelizmente para os miúdos, não. Para mim, pouco importa. Basta-me fechar os olhos e recordar os estimulantes quilómetros ao volante do original. ●
