Norev – Renault Twingo
Scale model of an automobile, the Renault Twingo, made by Norev. This example is reference 228047, included in the "Renault Toys – Twingo" series. It is made in China, possibly in 2008. Metal body painted in blue, with printed details. Metal base, unpainted. Glazing represented in transparent plastic with details molded in the windshield and panoramic sunroof. Interior details in pale blue plastic. Detailed plastic rims with "chrome" finish, plastic tires with molded details. With suspension. Panoramic roof with sliding opening. The nominal scale seems to be around 1:50 and the overall length is approximately 2.7 in. About 1.8 oz. This model represents an automobile, the 2004 Renault Twingo, possibly equipped with the 1149 cm³, 75 hp (55 kW) Renault D4F "L4" engine. Top speed around 104 mph.
The first time I drove a Renault Twingo, I found it so funny, with its rounded body painted in a vibrant Bleu Outremer and its smiling, frog-like appearance. A contagiously happy car. On the dashboard, the centrally located speedometer somehow resembled the Mini (at the time, I also owned a 1970 Morris Mini), and the spacious cabin had an air of refreshing modernity. As for performance, it was satisfactory, provided you didn't exceed two occupants with moderate luggage. The gearbox was precise and pleasant, and when used well, it allowed for good speed, even through mountainous terrain. The miniature offered by Norev is, let's say, eye-catching. The casting is excellent, robust, well-proportioned and detailed, and the printed accents are almost flawless, as is the paint job, adequately reproducing the bumpers partially in the body color. On the hood, the small ventilation grilles are correctly reproduced and accented in matte black. The treatment given to the interior is good—apart from the solution found for the steering wheel. But I understand it. The wheels are robust, but well-detailed, and to the delight of children, they roll well. In terms of play value, the panoramic sunroof with sliding opening promises to entertain children for many hours of playtime. The first time I drove a Renault Twingo I found it incredibly amusing—an appealing, irreverent car, fun to drive and a worthy successor to the iconic Renault 5. Today, looking at the large number of these adorable creatures in my collection, I still think the same. And the television advertisement comes to mind—"Twingo, à vous d'inventer la vie qui va avec." Absolutely. ●

Tejadilho panorâmico com abertura deslizante. A escala nominal parece ser à volta de 1:50 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 68 mm. Cerca de 52 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, o Renault Twingo de 2004, possivelmente equipado com o motor Renault D4F "L4" de 1149 cm³ e 75 hp (55 kW). Velocidade máxima na ordem dos 168 km/h.
A primeira vez que conduzi um Renault Twingo, achei-lhe imensa piada, com o corpo arredondado pintado num vibrante Bleu Outremer e ar de sapinho sorridente. Um carro contagiosamente feliz. No painel, o velocímetro centrado a lembrar de alguma forma o Mini (na altura, tinha também um Morris Mini de 1970) e no espaçoso habitáculo um ar de refrescante modernidade. Quanto ao desempenho, era satisfatório, desde que não se fosse além dos dois ocupantes com bagagem moderada. A caixa de velocidades era precisa e agradável e quando bem utilizada permitia manter um bom andamento, mesmo através das serranias. A miniatura proposta pela Norev é, digamo-lo, bastante apelativa. O molde é excelente, robusto, bem proporcionado e detalhado e os sublinhados impressos quase irrepreensíveis, assim como o trabalho de pintura, reproduzindo adequadamente os pára-choques parcialmente na cor da carroçaria. No capot, a correcta reprodução das pequenas grelhas de ventilação, destacadas a preto mate. O tratamento dado ao interior é bom—à parte a solução encontrada para o volante. Mas compreendo-a. As rodas são robustas, mas bem detalhadas e para alegria dos miúdos rodam bem. Em termos de valor lúdico, o tecto panorâmico com abertura deslizante promete entreter os miúdos ao longo de muitas horas de brincadeira. A primeira vez que conduzi um Renault Twingo achei-lhe imensa piada—um carro apelativo, irreverente, divertido de conduzir e um digno sucessor do icónico Renault 5. Hoje, ao passar os olhos pelo bom número destas adoráveis criaturas na minha colecção, continuo a pensar o mesmo. E vem-me à memória o anúncio na televisão —"Twingo, à vous d'inventer la vie qui va avec." Absolutamente. ●
2020s: Age of the Angry Cars
Like other cars throughout generations, the Twingo was a creature that evoked complicity, a friendly creature that made us smile. Today, when I get into one of these new "hi-tech" cars, cell phones on wheels, and drive them, I find no material nobility or soul in them, only an oppressive feeling, as if I were uncomfortably trapped inside Darth Vader's mask. I feel no desire to buy them. None of these new and expensive cars awakens my desire—or even makes me smile. They almost all have a menacing, angry air about them, as if their occupants wanted to intimidate and keep all other drivers at a distance—and they're exceptionally boring. Perhaps they are a reflection of an insecure, progressively cold, lonely, sad, and viscerally unhappy society. As for me, that's fine—there are other mobility solutions. More money stays in my wallet. ●
Tal como outros carros ao longo de várias gerações, o Twingo era uma criatura que nos despertava cumplicidades, uma criatura amigável que nos fazia sorrir. Hoje, quando entro num destes novos automóveis "hi-tech", telemóveis sobre rodas, e os conduzo, não lhes encontro nobreza material ou alma, apenas uma sensação opressiva, como se estivesse desconfortavelmente preso no interior da máscara do Darth Vader. Não sinto qualquer vontade de os comprar. Nenhum destes novos e dispendiosos automóveis me desperta o desejo—ou me faz sequer sorrir. Têm quase todos um ar ameaçador e zangado, como se os seus ocupantes quisessem intimidar e manter todos os outros condutores à distância—e são excepcionalmente aborrecidos. Talvez sejam o reflexo de uma sociedade insegura, progressivamente fria, solitária, triste e visceralmente infeliz. Quanto a mim, tudo bem—há outras soluções de mobilidade. Mais dinheiro fica na carteira. ●
