Efsi – T-Ford 1919

Scale model of an automobile, the T-Ford 1919, made by Efsi ¹. This example is reference 05, included in the "Old Timers" series. It is made in Holland, possibly in the early 1980s. Metal body painted in black, including fenders and running boards. Silver painted metal base. Windshield and windows without glazing. Interior details in white plastic. Plastic tires reproducing the shoulder blocks, rims in white. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:62 and the overall length is approximately 2.2 in. About 1.3 oz. This model represents an automobile, the 1919 Ford Model T coupe. It is made by Efsi in several versions. As a note of interest, in 1980, Pilen in Spain adds this model to its catalog as the Playero, reference 605, in the "Old Car" series. This series comprises eight references and also includes the other five castings from the original Efsi series, namely the pickup truck, the tank truck, the tow truck, the panel van (which also appears as ambulance and fire truck) and the sedan.

As a kid, I have mixed feelings for these Efsi models. I like their realistic proportions and details, but the lack of glazing is hard to accept. And in terms of play value, they are very clumsy "rollers". A good thing, though, is the number of variations on the theme, and soon a number of coupes, delivery vans, tow trucks, ambulances and fire engines find their way into in my garage. Sadly, their availability seems to be limited to a few newsstands, which eventually move on to more appealing and diversified offers proposed by Matchbox, Corgi, Majorette, or Tomica. This automobile, the T-Ford 1919, is in my collection under the theme "American Vehicles". ●

Carroçaria em metal pintada em preto, incluindo pára lamas e estribos. Base em metal pintada de prateado. Pára-brisas e janelas desprovidas de vidros. Detalhes interiores em plástico branco. Pneus em plástico reproduzindo os blocos do ombro, jantes em branco. Sem suspensão. A escala nominal é 1:62 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 57 mm. Cerca de 37 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, o Ford Model T coupe de 1919. É feito pela Efsi em diversas versões. Como nota de interesse, em 1980, a Pilen em Espanha adiciona este modelo ao seu catálogo como Playero, referência 605, na série "Old Car". Esta série compreende oito referências e também inclui os outros cinco moldes da série Efsi original, nomeadamente, a camioneta, a camioneta-cisterna, o pronto-socorro, a furgoneta (que também aparece como ambulância e carro de bombeiros) e o sedan.

Em criança, tenho sentimentos contraditórios por estes modelos da Efsi. Gosto das proporções e dos detalhes realistas, mas é difícil aceitar a falta dos vidros. E em termos de valor lúdico, são "roladores" muito desajeitados. Uma coisa boa, porém, é o número de variações sobre o tema, e logo vários coupes, furgonetas, camionetas, pronto-socorros, ambulâncias e carros de bombeiros chegam à minha garagem. Infelizmente, a sua disponibilidade parece ser limitada a algumas bancas de jornais e revistas que acabam por passar a ofertas mais atraentes e diversificadas, propostas pela Matchbox, Corgi, Majorette, ou Tomica. Este automóvel, o T-Ford 1919, encontra-se na minha colecção sob o tema "Veículos Americanos". ●

In this later version of the T-Ford 1919 we can see the protruding wheel hubs, hiding the axle tips, maybe as a safety measure for kids. Note the semi-gloss black paint, as well as the absence of shiny parts – the radiator grille, the crank, and the finely detailed headlights are part of the metal base, finished in silver paint. ●

Nesta versão posterior do T-Ford 1919 podemos ver os cubos das rodas mais salientes, ocultando as pontas dos eixos, talvez como medida de segurança para as crianças. Note-se a tinta preta em semi-brilho, assim como a ausência de peças brilhantes – a grelha do radiador, a manivela, e os faróis finamente detalhados são parte da base em metal, com acabamento em tinta prateada. ●
