Best Box – T-Ford 1919

Scale model of an automobile, the T-Ford 1919, made by Best Box ¹. This example is reference 2505, included in the "Best Box Series". It is made in Holland, in the 1960s ². Metal body painted gray. The lower part of the body forms the seats, hood, fenders, and running boards, and also serves as the base of the model. The top side is painted dark blue; the bottom side is unpainted. Windshield and windows without glazing. The only interior detail is the seats, made of metal painted dark blue. Plastic tires reproducing the shoulder blocks, unpainted metal spoked wheels. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:62 and the overall length (including wheel projections) is approximately 2.2 in. About 1 oz. This model represents an automobile, the 1919 Ford Model T coupe, possibly equipped with the 176.7 cu in (2896 cm³), 20 hp (15 kW) Ford "L4" engine. Top speed around 40–45 mph. ●

Modelo à escala de um automóvel, o T-Ford 1919, feito pela Best Box ¹. Este exemplar é a referência 2505, incluída na série "Best Box Series". É feito na Holanda, nos anos sessenta ². Carroçaria em metal pintada em cinzento. A parte inferior da carroçaria forma os assentos, o capot, os pára lamas e os estribos e funciona também como base do modelo. O lado de cima vem pintado de azul escuro; o lado de baixo não vem pintado. Pára-brisas e janelas desprovidas de vidros. O único detalhe interior são os assentos, em metal pintado de azul escuro. Pneus em plástico reproduzindo os blocos do ombro, jantes raiadas em metal, sem pintura. Sem suspensão. A escala nominal é 1:62 e o comprimento total (incluindo as projecções das rodas) é de aproximadamente 55 mm. Cerca de 29 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, o Ford Model T coupe de 1919, possivelmente equipado com o motor Ford "L4" de 2896 cm³ e 20 hp (15 kW). Velocidade máxima na ordem dos 64–72 km/h. ●

¹  According to the information printed on the packaging, it should perhaps be "Best Box Series", manufactured by Ifabex. However, given the scarce official information about the early years of the Dutch manufacturer and the common practice of considering these models manufactured by Best Box, I will maintain that premise. ● De acordo com a informação impressa nas embalagens, talvez devesse ser "Best Box Series", fabricada pela Ifabex. Contudo, dada a escassa informação oficial sobre os primeiros anos do fabricante holandês e a prática comum de considerar estes modelos fabricados pela Best Box, mantenho essa premissa.

Around 1970, the casting was updated and subsequently manufactured by Efsi and Holland Oto until the late 1980s. ● De acordo com as fontes que conheço, o período de produção do T-Ford 1919 pela Best Box decorre entre  meados dos anos sessenta e 1970. Best Box and Efsi, two production periods of the T-Ford 1919, each with its own charm. The 1970 casting (on our right) retains some of the technical premises, but with more refined proportions and details. The paintwork is also improved, and the interior features more comfortable seats—and a steering wheel!. ● 

Best Box e Efsi, dois períodos de produção do T-Ford 1919, cada um com o seu encanto. O molde de 1970 (à nossa direita) mantém algumas das premissas técnicas, mas com proporções e detalhes mais apurados. A pintura é também melhorada e no interior surgem assentos mais confortáveis—e um volante!. ●

The image shows some of the differences between the Best Box and Efsi periods. In the latter (on our right), the model benefits from a base that accommodates the rear axle. In turn, the front is simplified, and the front axle is now held by two body elements, two tongues, that cross the base. The wheels change from metal to plastic; the detailing of the wheels and tires is refined. From what I can see, in the Best Box period, it is possible to find the coupe and sedan with or without a spare tire. ● 

Na imagem, algumas das diferenças entre os períodos Best Box e Efsi. Neste último (à nossa direita), o modelo beneficia de uma base que acomoda o eixo traseiro. Por sua vez, a frente é simplificada e o eixo dianteiro passa a ser segurado por dois elementos da carroçaria, duas linguetas, que atravessam a base. As rodas passam de metal a plástico; o detalhamento das jantes e dos pneus é apurado. Tanto quanto consigo verificar, no período Best Box é possível encontrar o coupe e o sedan com ou sem roda sobresselente. ●
