Poliguri – Jeep Cherokee "Fire Dept. 111"

Scale model of a fire command vehicle, the Jeep Cherokee "Fire Dept. 111", made by Playwell and presumably sold in Portugal in Poliguri packaging. This example is presumably included in the "Guri Car" series. It is made in China, in the 1980s. Metal body painted in red, decorated with transparent stickers with inscriptions and motifs printed in white. Black plastic base, fixed with a screw. Glazing represented in opaque, black plastic. Two green LEDs (ø ±3 mm) simulating the emergency lights. Plastic wheels of two types, E5P and E5G, both detailed with a printed white stripe on the tire sidewall and with the representation of the shoulder blocks. No suspension. This model features electronic components to produce light and sound effects (siren), powered by two 1.5 V button cells (LR1130H). The nominal scale seems to be 1:58 and the overall length is approximately 2.8 in. About 1.7 oz. This model represents a fire command vehicle based on the second generation Jeep Cherokee (XJ), introduced in 1984.

As a note of interest, I acquired this model from a collector who assured me that it came from a blister pack from the "Guri Car" series and until proven otherwise I take this information as true. However, and although another Portuguese collector claims to have seen this same version sealed in a blister pack from the "Guri's + Robot" series, I can only personally confirm the version without electronic components, with the corresponding holes in the roof filled in and with transparent plastic windows. On the other hand, I wonder if this version with electronic components was at some point part of the elusive "Guri Sonic" series.

As for this Playwell model itself, I don't like it, but I understand it from a commercial point of view. Despite the obvious compromises, the casting acceptably reproduces the iconic Jeep Cherokee and the result is a reasonably robust toy. As for the wheels, I don't understand the different diameters, since in the same Playwell "Flash 'n' Sound" series we find models with wheels of the same diameter. Much to the kids' dismay, this fire command vehicle is a terrible roller and I doubt it would be one of the first to arrive at the scene of the fire. But I believe that its prodigious features, the lights and the sound of the siren, would make you forget everything else. ●

Este exemplar é presumivelmente incluído na série "Guri Car". É feito na China, nos anos oitenta. Carroçaria em metal pintada em vermelho, decorada com adesivos transparentes com inscrições e motivos impressos a branco. Base em plástico preto, fixada por um parafuso. Vidros representados em plástico opaco, preto. Dois LEDs verdes (ø ±3 mm) a simular as luzes de emergência. Rodas em plástico de dois tipos, E5P e E5G, ambos detalhados com uma risca branca impressa no flanco do pneu e com a representação dos blocos de ombro. Sem suspensão. Este modelo dispõe de componentes electrónicos para produzir efeitos de luz e som (sirena), alimentados por duas pilhas botão de 1,5 V (LR1130H). A escala nominal parece ser 1:58 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 72 mm. Cerca de 48 g. Este modelo representa um carro de comando dos bombeiros, baseado no Jeep Cherokee (XJ) de segunda geração, introduzido em 1984.

Como nota de interesse, adquiri este modelo a um coleccionador que me garantiu ser proveniente de uma embalagem blister da série "Guri Car" e até prova em contrário tomo por boa esta informação. Todavia, e ainda que um outro coleccionador português assegure ter visto esta mesma versão selada numa embalagem blister da série "Guri's + Robot", pessoalmente apenas posso confirmar a versão sem componentes electrónicos, com os correspondentes orifícios no tejadilho preenchidos e com vidros em plástico transparente. Por outro lado, questiono-me se esta versão com componentes electrónicos terá a dada altura feito parte da elusiva série "Guri Sonic".

Quanto a este modelo da Playwell propriamente dito, não gosto dele, mas entendo-o do ponto de vista comercial. Apesar dos evidentes compromissos, o molde reproduz aceitavelmente o icónico Jeep Cherokee e o resultado é um brinquedo razoavelmente robusto. Quanto às rodas, não entendo os diâmetros distintos, já que na mesma série "Flash 'n' Sound" da Playwell encontramos modelos com rodas de igual diâmetro. Para desespero dos miúdos, este carro de comando dos bombeiros é um péssimo rolador e duvido que fosse dos primeiros a chegar ao local do incêndio. Mas acredito que as suas prodigiosas funcionalidades, as luzes e o som da sirena, fizessem esquecer tudo o resto. ●

Playwell

Playwell models, originally from the "Flash 'n' Sound" series, found in Poliguri packaging, without pull back mechanisms and normally devoid of electronic components. I include the Ford Aerostar in the table, although, as far as I know, it has not yet been found in this context. ● Modelos Playwell, originalmente da série "Flash 'n' Sound", encontrados nas embalagens da Poliguri, sem mecanismos de mola e normalmente desprovidos de componentes electrónicos.
