Metal body painted in silver and blue. Metal base, unpainted. Glazing represented in transparent plastic with molded details in the windshield. Interior details in red plastic. Plastic wheels with "chrome" details simulating the rims (1H). With suspension. Opening doors. License plate "3901". The nominal scale is 1:69 and the overall length is approximately 3 in. About 1.5 oz. This model represents an automobile, possibly a 1980 Cadillac Seville Elegante sedan, equipped with the 368.4 cu in (6.0 L), 145 hp (108 kW) Cadillac L61 EFi "V8" engine.
The first time I saw a Cadillac Seville from the side, I thought something had gone wrong. The elegant English concept of the "bustle back", typical of certain Daimler and Rolls-Royce cars, did not go well with the American style and proportions of a Cadillac for the 1980s. And not even the two-tone paint job accenting the waistline could alleviate my visual discomfort. For better or worse, Tomica faithfully reproduced the proportions and stance of this controversial car, offering hands-down the best tiny Seville available – and there were a few. The casting is of excellent quality and reproduces all the main details well, including the confusing lines at the rear. The silver paint job is almost perfect and the slight misalignments in the application of the blue color are accepted in this scale and in the early eighties. Well-aligned doors work exemplarily. Apart from the missing dashboard, the interior is reasonably detailed – and opulent. As expected, the suspension is also exemplary. This is one of the cases in which I like the miniature more than the car that inspired it. For all intents and purposes, the 1980s were a time of constant challenge for Cadillac in terms of form and function, and today I find in this little Seville the spirit of its time – a time marked by the imperative need for survival, for adaptation and transition, not always in the best direction. ●

A primeira vez que vi um Cadillac Seville de lado, pensei que algo tinha corrido mal. O elegante conceito inglês de "bustle back" (literalmente, "traseira em anquinha"), típico de certos automóveis Daimler e Rolls-Royce, não combinava bem com o estilo angular e as proporções americanas de um Cadillac dos anos oitenta. E nem mesmo a pintura bicolor sublinhando a linha da cintura conseguiu aliviar o meu desconforto visual. Para o bem e para o mal, a Tomica reproduziu fielmente as proporções e a postura deste polémico automóvel, oferecendo, sem dúvida, o melhor Seville pequenino disponível – e houve alguns. O molde é de excelente qualidade e reproduz bem todos os detalhes principais, incluindo as confusas linhas da traseira. A pintura prateada é quase perfeita e os ligeiros desalinhamentos na aplicação da cor azul são aceites nesta escala e no início dos anos oitenta. As portas bem alinhadas funcionam exemplarmente. Tirando a ausência do tablier, o interior é razoavelmente detalhado – e opulento. Como seria de esperar, a suspensão também é exemplar. Este é um dos casos em que gosto mais da miniatura do que do carro que a inspirou. Para todos os efeitos, os anos oitenta foram uma época de constantes desafios para a Cadillac em termos de forma e função, e hoje encontro neste pequeno Seville o espírito da sua época – uma época marcada pela necessidade imperativa de sobrevivência, de adaptação e transição, nem sempre no melhor sentido. ●
