Efsi – T-Ford 1919 Pickup Truck "Lively Polly"
Scale model of a pickup truck, the T-Ford 1919 Pickup Truck "Lively Polly", made by Efsi. This example is reference 156, presumably in the "Old Timers" series. It is made in Holland, possibly in the 1980s. Plastic cab and cargo box in dark blue. Metal hood, fenders and running boards painted in off-white. Removable tarp in brown plastic, with the inscriptions "LIVELY POLLY", "DRY SOAP" and "FOR EVERY HOUSEHOLD" printed on the sides. Metal base painted in metallic gray. No windshield glazing. Interior cab details in black plastic. Plastic white wheels, with a subtle yellowish tint, black plastic tires with molded shoulder blocks. The ensemble simulates wooden "artillery wheels", used on the Ford Model T until the mid-1920s. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:62 and the overall length (including wheel projections) is approximately 2.8 in. About 1.2 oz. This model represents a pickup truck, presumably based on the 1919 Ford Model T, equipped with the 176.7 cu in (2896 cm³), 20 hp (15 kW) Ford "L4" engine. Top speed around 20 mph. Lively Polly was an English brand of laundry soap.
At some point, I tried to collect all the versions of the T-Ford 1919 proposed by Efsi. Then I gave up when I realized the challenge—they're countless! The potential of the modular concept, combining the same base (hood, fenders, running boards, and wheels) with various body styles, was prolifically explored by the Dutch manufacturer, sometimes resulting in peculiar compromises. Like here, where we seem to be halfway between the civilian version (T, 100.0 in wheelbase) and the commercial version (TT, 131 in or 157.5 in). But it hardly matters—somehow, the proportions and stance end up forming a very harmonious miniature. The plastic cab and cargo box are well-molded and detailed; on the tarp, the details printed with the "Lively Polly" soap advertisement are acceptable. This version doesn't have windows, but at least it benefits from a steering wheel and seats inside the cab. The base, painted metallic gray, extends forward to exquisitely form the grille (with the "Ford" signature in relief), the headlights, and suspension elements. Very good. The lower part of the body is metal and forms the hood, the fender, and the running boards—the details are reasonable, the paint job not so much. The wheels are well molded and detailed, and in this example, they roll surprisingly well. The play value is limited to the cargo box with a removable cover—frequently lost by the kids. While I've given up on collecting all versions of the T-Ford 1919, I never stopped acquiring those I consider most relevant or appealing. And almost without realizing it, I ended up filling an entire wing of my garage with these lovely creatures. ●

A escala nominal é 1:62 e o comprimento total (incluindo as projecções das rodas) é de aproximadamente 70 mm. Cerca de 33 g. Este modelo representa uma camioneta presumivelmente baseada no Ford Model T de 1919, equipado com o motor Ford "L4" de 2896 cm³ e 20 hp (15 kW). Velocidade máxima na ordem dos 32 km/h. Lively Polly era uma marca inglesa de sabão para a roupa.
A dada altura, tentei coleccionar todas as versões do T-Ford 1919 propostas pela Efsi. Depois, desisti ao aperceber-me do desafio—são incontáveis! O potencial do conceito modular, combinando a mesma base (capot, pára-lamas, estribos e rodas) com diversas carroçarias, foi prolificamente explorado pelo fabricante holandês, originando por vezes peculiares compromissos. Como aqui, onde parecemos ficar a meio caminho entre a versão civil (T, entreeixos de 254 cm) e a comercial (TT, 333 ou 400 cm). Mas pouco importa—de alguma forma, as proporções e postura acabam por formar uma miniatura muito harmoniosa. A cabina e a caixa de carga em plástico são bem moldadas e detalhadas; no toldo, os detalhes impressos com a publicidade ao sabão "Lively Polly" são aceitáveis. Esta versão não possui vidros, mas pelo menos já beneficia de volante e assentos no interior da cabina. A base, pintada de cinzento metalizado, prolonga-se à frente para formar primorosamente a grelha (com a assinatura "Ford" em relevo), os faróis e elementos da suspensão. Muito bom. A parte inferior da carroçaria é em metal e forma o capot, o pára-lamas e os estribos—os detalhes são bons, a pintura nem tanto. As rodas são bem moldadas e detalhadas e neste exemplar rodam surpreendentemente bem. O valor lúdico é limitado à caixa de carga com cobertura amovível—frequentemente perdida pelos miúdos. Se é certo que desisti de coleccionar todas as versões do T-Ford 1919, nunca deixei de adquirir aquelas que considero mais relevantes ou apelativas. E quase sem dar por isso, acabei por encher toda uma ala na minha garagem com estas encantadoras criaturas. ●
