Tomica – Ford Continental Mark IV


Scale model of an automobile, the Ford Continental Mark IV, made by Tomica. This example is reference F4, included in what is usually known as the "Foreign" series, dedicated to non-Japanese vehicles. It is made in Japan in 1983 or 1984. Metal body painted in yellow, white roof. Metal base, unpainted. Glazing represented in transparent plastic, with the rear-view mirror molded on the windshield. Interior details in red plastic. Plastic wheels, rims with "chrome" finish. With suspension. Opening doors. "FORD" license plate. The nominal scale is 1:77 and the overall length is approximately 3 in. About 1.7 oz. This model represents an automobile, possibly the 1974 Lincoln Continental Mark IV coupe. It is made by Tomica in several versions.

In the late 1970s, Lincoln automobiles always evoke, among some of the adults I know, a sort of automotive excellence, even if they are a rare sight on Portuguese roads – and objectively no better than equivalent European products. The few that I see are, in fact, impressive, with their classic grille and hidden headlamps, the fake spare tire cover in "Continental" style, massive bumpers, and vinyl covered roof with elegant and mysterious "opera windows". I do have a few in my garage – in miniature form, that is, including this one made by Tomica. At about 1.7 oz it is heavy and features a soft suspension, the ideal choice for some boulevard driving – along the carpet. This automobile, the Ford Continental Mark IV, is in my collection under the theme "American Vehicles". ●

Este modelo representa um automóvel, possivelmente o Lincoln Continental Mark IV coupe de 1974. É feito pela Tomica em diversas versões.

No final da década de 1970, os automóveis Lincoln evocam sempre, entre alguns dos adultos que conheço, uma espécie de excelência automotiva, mesmo que sejam raros nas estradas portuguesas – e objectivamente não superiores aos produtos europeus equivalentes. Os poucos que vejo são, de facto, impressionantes, com a sua grelha clássica e faróis ocultos, a falsa cobertura do pneu sobresselente em estilo "Continental", pára-choques enormes, e o teto coberto por vinilo com elegantes e misteriosas "opera windows". Tenho alguns na minha garagem – em miniatura, bem entendido, incluindo este feito pela Tomica. Com cerca de 48 g, é pesado e possui uma suspensão macia, a escolha ideal para passear na avenida – ao longo do tapete. Este automóvel, o Ford Continental Mark IV, encontra-se na minha colecção sob o tema "Veículos Americanos". ●

This series of 16 miniatures appears in 1970 associated with the Rajá ice cream brand, which offers a figurine on each ice cream purchased. Monochrome plastic, various colors. Changes In December 2022, both websites, " IT'S ONLY BUSES " and " MY POLIGURI COLLECTION ", definitely reached the end of their path, with, respectively, more than 191,000 and 23,000 views. Both websites, " IT'S ONLY BUSES " and " MY POLIGURI COLLECTION ", were born at a time when I thought it was possible to maintain a meeting point for each of my research topics – " IT'S ONLY BUSES ", " IT'S ONLY TRAINS ", " MY POLIGURI COLLECTION ", to mention just a few. Obstacles In editorial terms, 2023 was a year without surprises for the " FUTURE MEMORY | TRANSPORTATION " and " FUTURE MEMORY | TOYS & MODELS " websites. But it is increasingly clear that one life is not enough to share my entire photographic collection.
