BBurago – 1941 Willys Coupe

Scale model of an automobile in the "hot rod" style, the 1941 Willys Coupe, made by BBurago. This example is reference 18-59019 ¹, included in the "1/64" series. It is made in China, possibly in 2015. Metal body painted in metallic blue. Black plastic base. Glazing represented in transparent plastic with molded details in the windshield. Plastic wheels with the rims painted in metallic gray. No suspension. The nominal scale seems to be around 1:55 and the overall length is approximately 3.1 in. About 1.6 oz. This model represents an automobile in the "hot rod" style, the 1941 Willys Coupe, based on the 1941 Willys Americar coupe. 

The 1941–1942 Willys Americar is a low-cost, economical car with a power output of 60 hp from the 2199 cm³ in-line four-cylinder "Go-Devil" engine. Nothing exciting, but its modern appearance and affordable price guarantee a reasonable sales success until production is interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. After contributing to the production of the iconic military "jeep", especially with its MB model (from "Military" model "B"), Willys opts in the post-war period to provide the American public with a civilian version, the CJ (from "Civilian Jeep"), setting aside the evolution of the Americar. Abandoned by the manufacturer, but adopted by several trends of "hot rodding", modified and muscled until insanity, the Willys Americar ends up becoming, ironically, one of the icons of the American automobile culture. Given the limited number of original surviving cars, it has been possible for some years to acquire excellent quality replicas with fiberglass bodies and chassis for all tastes – including, of course, high-performance combinations. It is quite possible that this BBurago model is based on one of those vibrant examples. É feito na China, possivelmente em 2015. Carroçaria em metal pintada em azul metalizado. Base em plástico preto. Vidros representados em plástico transparente com detalhes moldados no pára-brisas. Detalhes interiores em plástico preto. Rodas em plástico com jantes pintadas em cinzento metalizado. Sem suspensão. A escala nominal parece ser à volta de 1:55 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 78 mm. Cerca de 44 g.  Este modelo representa um automóvel em estilo "hot rod", o 1941 Willys Coupe, baseado no Willys Americar coupe de 1941.

O Willys Americar de 1941–1942 é um automóvel económico e reduzido ao essencial, com uma potência de 60 hp a partir do motor "Go-Devil" de quatro cilindros em linha com 2199 cm³. Nada de entusiasmante, mas o seu aspecto moderno e o preço acessível garantem-lhe um razoável sucesso de vendas até a produção ser interrompida pelo eclodir da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Depois de contribuir para a produção do icónico "jeep" militar, sobretudo com o seu modelo MB (de "Military" model "B"), a Willys opta no pós-guerra por disponibilizar ao público americano uma versão civil, o CJ (de "Civilian Jeep"), colocando de lado a evolução do Americar. Abandonado pelo fabricante, mas adoptado por diversas correntes do "hot rodding", modificado e musculado até à insanidade, o Willys Americar acaba por se tornar, ironicamente, num dos ícones da cultura automóvel americana. Dado o número limitado de carros originais sobreviventes, é desde há alguns anos possível adquirir réplicas de excelente qualidade com carroçarias em fibra de vidro e chassis para todos os gostos – incluindo, naturalmente, combinações de elevado desempenho. É bem possível que este modelo da BBurago se baseie num desses vibrantes exemplares. Este automóvel, o 1941 Willys Coupe, encontra-se na minha colecção sob os temas "Veículos Americanos" e "Muscle Cars & Hot Rods". ●
