Hot Wheels – '67 Pontiac GTO

Scale model of an automobile in the "custom" style, the '67 Pontiac GTO, made by Hot Wheels. This example is reference 8, included in the "2005 Treasure Hunt" series. It is made in Malaysia, possibly in 2005. Metal body painted in metallic dark blue ("Metalflake Dark Blue"), black "vinyl" top. Plastic base with "chrome" finish. Glazing represented in gray tinted transparent plastic. Interior details in black plastic. Rubber tires, "chromed" plastic rims (CDDRR, Chrome Deep Dish Real Riders). No suspension. The nominal scale seems to be around 1:63 and the overall length is approximately 3.3 in. About 1.4 oz. This model in the "custom" style, the '67 Pontiac GTO, is based on the 1967 Pontiac GTO Hardtop Coupe. As a note of interest, GTO derives from "Gran Turismo Omologato". I like to think this '67 Pontiac GTO came originally equipped with the L67 Ram Air Quadra-Power 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic option, meaning a 6558 cm³ (6.6 L), 268 kW (360 hp) Pontiac 400 V8 engine. But now, look at the beast – who knows what’s really hiding under the hood... 

A Pontiac GTO always looks good, even in smaller sizes, and this example is no exception. With such a raked stance and oversized tires at the rear (17"), I don't know if Hot Wheels is trying to depict a very aggressive "custom" car or a refined "Pro Street Racer" – but the result is outstanding. Almost perfect paint job and printed details, including the lettering "HW 10TH ANNIVERSARY" on the front fender, only on the right side. The "chromed" rims with detailed rubber tires look amazing. Sadly, the tail lights do not come picked out in red and – strictly from a personal point of view – I don’t fancy the oversized ribbed treatment of the headlights. Still, the overall effect is amazing and even the "chromed" base comes fairly detailed. This '67 Pontiac GTO is a must in any collection of the "muscle car" era.

Vidros representados em plástico cinzento transparente. Detalhes interiores em plástico preto. Pneus em borracha, jantes em plástico com acabamento "cromado" (CDDRR, Chrome Deep Dish Real Riders). Sem suspensão. A escala nominal parece ser à volta de 1:63 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 84 mm. Cerca de 40 g. Este modelo em estilo "custom", o '67 Pontiac GTO, é baseado no Pontiac GTO Hardtop Coupe de 1967. Como nota de interesse, GTO deriva de "Gran Turismo Omologato". Gosto de pensar que este '67 Pontiac GTO veio originalmente equipado com a opção L67 Ram Air Quadra-Power 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic, significando um motor Pontiac 400 V8, com 6558 cm³ (6.6 L) e 268 kW (360 hp). Por outro lado, olhemos para a fera – quem sabe o que se esconde de facto sob aquele "capot"…

 

Um Pontiac GTO fica sempre bem, mesmo em tamanho reduzido, e este exemplar não é excepção. Com uma postura tão inclinada e pneus sobredimensionados à retaguarda (17"), não sei se a Hot Wheels está a tentar representar um carro "custom" bastante agressivo ou um "Pro Street Racer" refinado – mas o resultado é excelente. Pintura e detalhes impressos quase perfeitos, incluindo a inscrição "HW 10TH ANNIVERSARY" no pára-lamas dianteiro, apenas do lado direito. As jantes "cromadas" com pneus de borracha detalhados parecem incríveis. Infelizmente, as luzes traseiras não vêm destacadas em vermelho e – estritamente do ponto de vista pessoal – não gosto do tratamento com nervuras sobredimensionadas dos faróis. Ainda assim, o efeito geral é incrível e até a base "cromada" vem razoavelmente detalhada. Este '67 Pontiac GTO é um "must" em qualquer colecção da era "muscle car".

How much?

Several readers have asked me to include the market value of the items described. In fact, and as most collectors will agree – an item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. However, most collectors will also agree on average values, based on objective notions of relevance, scarcity and conservation. Therefore, and as I know that these requests for market values will not stop, I will occasionally include, not necessarily the market value, but rather, based on my perception of the markets over the last thirty years, the value that, hypothetically and at the time of publication, I am willing to pay for the item described. In this case, I will pay up to €10 for a '67 Pontiac GTO from the Hot Wheels "2005 Treasure Hunts" series, loose and in good condition, or up to €25 if boxed and in perfect condition. ●
