Novacar – Impala Police

Scale model of a police car, the Impala Police, made by Novacar. This example is reference 109. It is made in Portugal, in 1994–95. White plastic body, with printed details. Unpainted metal base. Glazing represented in blue transparent plastic. Two rotating beacons in blue transparent plastic. Interior details in blue plastic. Plastic wheels with "chrome" details. No suspension. The nominal scale seems to be 1:72 and the overall length is approximately 3.1 in. About 0.9 oz. This model represents a police car, possibly based on the 1981 Chevrolet Impala 9C1. Among other options, it could come equipped with the 5002 cm³, 86 kW (115 hp) Chevrolet "small-block" V8 engine. 

Although in the eighties my favorite police cars were the Dodge Monaco and the Plymouth Fury, mainly influenced by the television series "Hill Street Blues" and "Dukes of Hazzard", the interest extended to other models, such as the Dodge Polara, the Plymouth Satellite – or the Chevrolet Impala, reproduced here in miniature by Novacar. In fact, although we immediately recognize the Chevrolet Impala 9C1 in it, there are several compromises in proportions and details. Too bad, for example, the somewhat stylized front, with the "shrunken" headlights, a treatment that extends to the emergency lights – where just a rotary beacon or the light bar would have been better. The interior is summarily detailed and the steering wheel is residual. As for the paint scheme and badges used, I suppose this is a generic interpretation of the theme, although the gold color in the printed details reminds me to some extent of the markings used by the Illinois State Police. This police car, the Impala Police, is in my collection under the themes "American Vehicles" and "Police Vehicles". ●

Carroçaria em plástico branco, com detalhes impressos. Base em metal, sem pintura. Vidros representados em plástico azul transparente. Dois rotativos em plástico azul  transparente. Detalhes interiores em plástico azul. Rodas em plástico com detalhes "cromados". Sem suspensão. A escala nominal parece ser 1:72 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 79 mm. Cerca de 25 g. Este modelo representa um carro de polícia, possivelmente baseado no Chevrolet Impala 9C1 de 1981. Entre outras opções, podia vir equipado com o motor Chevrolet "small-block" V8 de 5002 cm³ e 86 kW (115 hp). 

Ainda que nos anos oitenta os meus carros de polícia favoritos fossem o Dodge Monaco e o Plymouth Fury, sobretudo por influência das séries de televisão "Hill Street Blues" e "Dukes of Hazzard", o interesse estendia-se a outros modelos, como o Dodge Polara, o Plymouth Satellite – ou o Chevrolet Impala, reproduzido aqui em miniatura pela Novacar. De facto, ainda que nela reconheçamos de imediato o Chevrolet Impala 9C1, verificam-se diversos compromissos nas proporções e nos detalhes. Pena, por exemplo, a frente algo estilizada, com os faróis "encolhidos", tratamento que se estende às luzes de emergência – onde teria ficado melhor apenas um rotativo ou a barra de luzes. O interior apresenta-se sumariamente detalhado e o volante é residual. Quanto ao esquema de pintura e aos distintivos utilizados, suponho que se trate de uma interpretação genérica do tema, ainda que a cor dourada nos detalhes impressos me lembre, até certo ponto, as marcações utilizadas pela Illinois State Police. Este carro de polícia, o Impala Police, encontra-se na minha colecção sob o tema "Veículos Americanos" e "Veículos de Polícia". ●

Novacar series

The Novacar series (also Majorette "Série 100") offers at least 19 references, comprising a wide choice of vehicles, from race cars to an American tractor truck. All models combine a plastic body with a metal base. This series, manufactured in Portugal by Minia Porto, is presumably available from 1994 to 1996. Check out the Novacar references here. ● A série Novacar (também Majorette "Série 100") oferece pelo menos 19 referências, abrangendo uma ampla escolha de veículos, desde carros de corrida até um camião semi-reboque americano. Todos os modelos combinam um corpo de plástico com uma base de metal. Esta série, fabricada em Portugal pela Minia Porto, está presumivelmente disponível entre 1994 e 1996. Versions and color variants

Reference available in white or black, at least two decoration variants. In Brazil, presumably manufactured in Rio de Janeiro, we find Novacar models with specific versions and color variants, of which I do not have the proper listing and description. Necessary corrections or additions to the above are welcome. ●

No Brasil, presumivelmente fabricados no Rio de Janeiro, encontramos modelos Novacar com versões e variantes de cor específicas, dos quais não possuo a devida listagem e descrição. How much?

Several readers have asked me to include the market value of the items described. In fact, and as most collectors will agree – an item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. However, most collectors will also agree on average values, based on objective notions of relevance, scarcity and conservation. Therefore, and as I know that these requests for market values will not stop, I will occasionally include, not necessarily the market value, but rather, based on my perception of the markets over the last thirty years, the value that, hypothetically and at the time of publication, I am willing to pay for the item described. In this case, I will pay up to €5 for an Impala Police by Novacar, loose and in good condition, or up to €8 if boxed and in perfect condition. ●

Vários leitores têm-me pedido para incluir o valor de mercado dos itens descritos. De facto, e como a maioria dos coleccionadores concordará – um item vale o que alguém está disposto a pagar por ele. No entanto, a maioria dos coleccionadores também concordará com valores médios, baseados em noções objectivas de relevância, de escassez e de conservação. Assim sendo, e como sei que esses pedidos por valores de mercado não vão parar, passo a incluir ocasionalmente, não forçosamente o valor de mercado, mas sim, e baseado na minha percepção dos mercados ao longo dos últimos trinta anos, o valor que, hipoteticamente e no momento da publicação, estou disposto a pagar pelo item descrito.
