Tomica – Type T Ford Coupe
Scale model of an automobile, the Type T Ford Coupe, made by Tomica. This example is reference F11, included in what is usually known as the "Foreign" series, dedicated to non-Japanese vehicles. It is made in Japan in the late-1970s. Metal body painted in dark red, including fenders and running boards. Black roof top in plastic simulating canvas. Black plastic base. Glazing represented in dark yellow transparent plastic. No interior details. Plastic wheels reproducing the shoulder blocks, rims in black. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:60 and the overall length is approximately 2.3 in. About 1.3 oz. This model represents an automobile, possibly the 1914 or 1915 ¹ Ford Model T coupe. It is made by Tomica in several versions.
A simple, but lovely model, sadly with no interior details. Purchased in 1979, about a week after the Datsun No.1. This automobile, the Type T Ford Coupe, is is in my collection under the theme "American Vehicles". ●

Este exemplar é a referência F11, incluída naquela que é usualmente conhecida por série "Foreign" (estrangeira), dedicada a veículos não-japoneses. É feito no Japão no final dos anos setenta. Carroçaria em metal pintada em vermelho escuro, incluindo pára-lamas e estribos. Topo da capota em plástico preto simulando lona. Base em plástico preto. Vidros representados em plástico transparente amarelo escuro. Sem detalhes interiores. Rodas em plástico reproduzindo os blocos do ombro, jantes em preto. Sem suspensão. A escala nominal é 1:60 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 58 mm. Cerca de 37 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, possivelmente o Ford Model T coupe de 1914 ou 1915 ¹. É feito pela Tomica em diversas versões.
Um modelo simples, mas encantador, infelizmente sem detalhes interiores. Adquirido em 1979, cerca de uma semana depois do Datsun No.1. Este automóvel, o Type T Ford Coupe, encontra-se na minha colecção sob o tema "Veículos Americanos". ●
¹ My eyes tell me it is possibly a 1914 model, in spite of the louvers on the hood. These are introduced in the 1915 model, along with electric headlights and a new fender design. ● Os meus olhos dizem-me que se trata possivelmente de um modelo de 1914, apesar dos ventiladores no capot. Estes são introduzidos no modelo de 1915, a par dos faróis eléctricos e de um novo desenho de pára-lamas.

The unstoppable "Tin Lizzie"
At 134 in long, the Ford Model T is not a large car, but on the other hand it is surprisingly tall, perhaps because it needs to accommodate the elegant ladies promenading their lush hats around town. Another interesting detail is the large width between the wheels. At the time of its launch, in 1908, country roads were rudimentary, sometimes just parallel grooves left by animal-drawn vehicles. To avoid getting stuck in the mud, the Ford Model T adopts a width between wheels that allows it to follow these grooves, a feature that, combined with its low weight and generous ground clearance, allows it to overcome almost all types of obstacles with astonishing ease, sometimes zigzagging like a lizard, which gives rise to one of its nicknames, the "Tin Lizzie". ●
Com um comprimento de 3,40 m, o Ford Model T não é um carro grande, mas por outro lado é surpreendentemente alto, talvez porque precise de acomodar as senhoras elegantes, de passeio pela cidade com seus exuberantes chapéus. Outro pormenor interessante é a grande largura entre as rodas. Na altura do seu lançamento, em 1908, as estradas rurais são rudimentares, por vezes apenas sulcos paralelos deixados pelos veículos de tracção animal. Para não ficar atascado, o Ford Model T adopta uma largura entre rodas que lhe permite seguir esses sulcos, característica que, aliada ao seu baixo peso e generosa altura ao solo, lhe permite transpor quase todo o tipo de obstáculos com espantosa facilidade, por vezes ziguezagueando como uma lagartixa, o que dá origem a um dos seus cognomes, "Tin Lizzie" ou a "Lagartixa de Lata". ●
