Yatming – Nissan Laurel 2000 SGX


Scale model of an automobile, the Nissan Laurel 2000 SGX, made by Yatming ¹. This example is reference 1007 in the Fastwheel series. It is made in Hong Kong, possibly in the 1970s. Metal body painted in blue. Black plastic base. Glazing represented in transparent plastic. Interior details in white plastic, left-hand drive. Plastic wheels, rims with chrome finish. With suspension. No nominal scale indicated, but taking the wheelbase as reference, it seems to be around 1:65. The overall length is approximately 2.8 in. About 0.9 oz. This model represents an automobile, the Nissan Laurel 2000 SGX coupe, possibly based on the 1972 Nissan Laurel 2000SGX. I only know this blue version.

At the end of the 1970s, when Yatming models start arriving in my garage, I find them appealing, although lighter, less realistic, and less well finished than some competing models. The wheels are narrow and on some models the suspension is barely noticeable – and fragile. Some are good rollers. Sometimes it takes effort to relate some of these miniatures to the real vehicle, but this is not the case, even with some design liberties and simplified details. Of course, in Lisboa, I don't find any of these exotic Laurel in the streets, but when I see them on the pages of L'Automobile's massive worldwide catalog, the similarities with the miniature are evident. This car, the Nissan Laurel 2000 SGX, is in my collection under the theme Japanese Vehicles. ●

Modelo à escala de um automóvel, o Nissan Laurel 2000 SGX, feito pela Yatming ¹. Este exemplar é a referência 1007 na série Fastwheel. É feito em Hong Kong, possivelmente nos anos setenta. Carroçaria em metal pintada em azul. Base em plástico preto. Vidros representados em plástico transparente. Detalhes interiores em plástico branco, volante à esquerda. Rodas em plástico, jantes com acabamento cromado. Com suspensão. Nenhuma escala nominal é indicada, mas tomando a distância entre eixos como referência, parece ser à volta de 1:65. O comprimento total é de aproximadamente 70 mm. Cerca de 25 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, o Nissan Laurel 2000 SGX coupe, possivelmente baseado no Nissan Laurel 2000SGX de 1972. Apenas conheço esta versão azul.

No final dos anos setenta, quando os modelos da Yatming começam a chegar à minha garagem, acho-os apelativos, ainda que mais leves, menos realistas, e menos bem acabados do que alguns modelos concorrentes. As rodas são estreitas e em alguns modelos a suspensão é pouco perceptível – e frágil. Alguns são bons roladores. Por vezes é preciso esforço para relacionar algumas destas miniaturas com o veículo real, mas não é este o caso, mesmo com algumas liberdades de design e detalhes simplificados. Claro que em Lisboa não encontro nenhum destes exóticos Laurel na rua, mas ao vê-los nas páginas do volumoso catálogo mundial da L'Automobile, as semelhanças com a miniatura são evidentes. Este automóvel, o Nissan Laurel 2000 SGX, encontra-se na minha colecção sob o tema Veículos Japoneses. ● |10/10

This series of 16 miniatures appears in 1970 associated with the Rajá ice cream brand, which offers a figurine on each ice cream purchased. Monochrome plastic, various colors. Novacar – Brief Introduction

Novacar is a series of small toy cars with plastic bodies and die-cast metal bases, available between 1994 and 1996. It is made in Portugal by Majorette through a subsidiary company, Minia Porto, based in Baltar, about 20 km from Porto. The series includes at least 19 references, comprising a wide choice of vehicles, from race cars to an American tractor truck, no trailer provided, in scales around the 1:64th. The " Novacar " series or " Série 100 " appears in Majorette's 1994, 1995 and 1996 catalogs. The word "Novacar" clearly derives from the expression "new car", denoting a sense of freshness and innovation. The catalogs show photos of each reference, 101 to 121, as well as of the packaging options. Efsi – T-Ford 1919 Panel Van

Scale model of a panel van, the T-Ford 1919 , made by Efsi   ¹ . This example is reference 04, included in the "Old Timers" series. It is made in Holland, possibly in the early 1980s. Metal body painted in brown, including brown fenders and running boards. Silver metal base. No windshield, windows without glazing. Interior details in white plastic. Plastic tires reproducing the shoulder blocks, rims in yellow. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:62 and the overall length is approximately 2.3 in. About 1.6 oz. This model represents a panel van derived from the 1919  Ford Model T . It is made by Efsi in several versions. It is also used as the basis for the ambulance and fire engine versions.
