Zylmex – Mazda GT Police Car


Scale model of a police car, the Mazda GT Police Car ¹, made by Zylmex. This example is reference P306 ², included in the "Dynamights" series. It is made in Hong Kong in the 1970s. Metal body painted in black, with white doors and roof. Paper labels on the doors showing a five-pointed star, and on the boot reading "POLICE". Metal base, unpainted. Glazing represented in yellow transparent plastic. Red roof light. Interior details in yellow plastic, left-hand drive. Plastic wheels, rims with "chrome" finish. With suspension. Opening doors. The overall length is approximately 2.8 in. About 1.2 oz. This model represents a police car based on the 1970 Mazda Capella coupe. It is made by Zylmex in several versions.

In the late 1970s, I find the Zylmex miniatures attractive, in spite of some annoying imperfections – this example is in mint condition, straight out of the box... Surprisingly, some are very good rollers. I'm not sure if Zylmex tries to reproduce a true Mazda GT coupe in police duties (did it exist?), but at least and despite its obvious flaws, the result is quite appealing. This police car, the Mazda GT Police Car, is in my collection under the themes "Japanese Vehicles" and "Police Vehicles". ●

É feito em Hong Kong nos anos setenta. Carroçaria em metal pintada em preto, com portas e capota brancas. Etiquetas em papel nas portas mostrando uma estrela de cinco pontas, e na tampa da bagageira a dizer "POLICE". Base em metal, sem pintura. Vidros representados em plástico transparente amarelo. Rotativo vermelho. Detalhes interiores em plástico amarelo, volante à esquerda. Rodas em plástico, jantes com acabamento "cromado". Com suspensão. Abre as portas. O comprimento total é de aproximadamente 71 mm. Cerca de 35 g. Este modelo representa um carro de polícia baseado no Mazda Capella coupe de 1970. É feito pela Zylmex em diversas versões.

No final dos anos setenta, acho as miniaturas da Zylmex atraentes, apesar de algumas irritantes imperfeições – este exemplar está em mint condition, directamente da caixa... Surpreendentemente, alguns são roladores muito bons. Não tenho a certeza se a Zylmex tenta reproduzir um verdadeiro Mazda GT coupe do corpo de polícia (será que existiu?), mas, pelo menos e apesar das suas evidentes imperfeições, o resultado é bastante apelativo. Este carro de polícia, o Mazda GT Police Car, encontra-se na minha colecção sob os temas "Veículos Japoneses" e "Veículos de Polícia". ●

GarysCars | "In Memoriam of Gary Hirst"

The GarysCars website was a reference work on a number of diecast manufacturers. It was my favorite source on Zylmex. Sadly, Gary Hirst passed away in 2017. hobbyDB seems to have preserved some of its contents – but it’s not the same thing. I would have preferred to see the original website preserved, keeping the Author’s fingerprint untouched. Maybe it’s time to create a panel of Heritage Websites, preserving in their original formats the unique contributions of what is often a lifelong passion and research.

This series of 16 miniatures appears in 1970 associated with the Rajá ice cream brand, which offers a figurine on each ice cream purchased. Monochrome plastic, various colors. Novacar – Brief Introduction

Novacar is a series of small toy cars with plastic bodies and die-cast metal bases, available between 1994 and 1996. It is made in Portugal by Majorette through a subsidiary company, Minia Porto, based in Baltar, about 20 km from Porto. The series includes at least 19 references, comprising a wide choice of vehicles, from race cars to an American tractor truck, no trailer provided, in scales around the 1:64th. The " Novacar " series or " Série 100 " appears in Majorette's 1994, 1995 and 1996 catalogs. The word "Novacar" clearly derives from the expression "new car", denoting a sense of freshness and innovation. The catalogs show photos of each reference, 101 to 121, as well as of the packaging options. Efsi – T-Ford 1919 Panel Van

Scale model of a panel van, the T-Ford 1919 , made by Efsi   ¹ . This example is reference 04, included in the "Old Timers" series. It is made in Holland, possibly in the early 1980s. Metal body painted in brown, including brown fenders and running boards. Silver metal base. No windshield, windows without glazing. Interior details in white plastic. Plastic tires reproducing the shoulder blocks, rims in yellow. No suspension. The nominal scale is 1:62 and the overall length is approximately 2.3 in. About 1.6 oz. This model represents a panel van derived from the 1919  Ford Model T . It is made by Efsi in several versions. It is also used as the basis for the ambulance and fire engine versions. As a note of interest, in 1980, Pilen in Spain adds this model to its catalog as the Furgoneta, reference 604, part of the "Old Car" series.
