Novacar – Ferrari Testarossa
Scale model of an automobile, the Ferrari Testarossa, made by Novacar. This example is reference 104. It is made in Portugal in 1996. Red plastic body, with printed details. Unpainted metal base. Glazing represented in transparent plastic. Interior details in beige plastic – no driving wheel. Plastic wheels with "chromed" details. No suspension. The nominal scale seems to be 1:60 and the overall length is approximately 3 in. About 0.8 oz. This model represents a sports car, possibly the 1984 Ferrari Testarossa, equipped with the 4943 cm³ , 287 kW (390 hp) Ferrari "flat-12" engine. It could reach a top speed of around 180 mph.
The idea of combining a plastic body with a metal base in a "3-inches" model may have some advantages, but when Novacar hit the market it didn't seem like a good idea to me. Perhaps my memory fails me, but I think that the price difference between these models and those with a metal body was not relevant. The blister packs were appealing, but when I picked them up I had the impression that I was buying a light, fragile and lower quality product – and then I chose another robust Majorette from the 200 series. Today, I regret not having bought some – especially for the connection with Portugal. Manufactured by Minia Porto, in Baltar, this Ferrari Testarossa is an acceptable model. Despite the omission of some details, including the steering wheel. Light and without suspension, this model is not a good roller – certainly to the annoyance of some kids in the nineties. On the other hand, the plastic and printed details are of good quality and resistant. Interesting detail – in 1994 and 1995, the decoration on the "hood" shows the "Ferrari" signature and, above, the emblem with the "Cavallino Rampante". In 1996, these elements gave way to the inscription "Racing" and an "S" on the emblem. A beautiful "S Rampante". This automobile, the Ferrari Testarossa, is in my collection under the theme "Italian Vehicles". ●

Base em metal, sem pintura. Vidros representados em plástico transparente. Detalhes interiores em plástico bege – sem volante. Rodas em plástico com detalhes "cromados". Sem suspensão. A escala nominal parece ser 1:60 e o comprimento total é de aproximadamente 75 mm. Cerca de 22 g. Este modelo representa um carro desportivo, possivelmente o Ferrari Testarossa de 1984, equipado com o motor Ferrari "flat-12" de 4943 cm³ e 287 kW (390 hp). Podia atingir uma velocidade máxima de cerca de 290 km/h.
A ideia de combinar num modelo "3-inches" a carroçaria em plástico com uma base em metal pode ter algumas vantagens, mas na altura em que a Novacar chegou ao mercado não me pareceu uma boa ideia. Talvez a memória me falhe, mas julgo que a diferença de preço entre estes modelos e os de carroçaria em metal não era relevante. As embalagens-bolha eram apelativas, mas ao pegar-lhes tinha a impressão de estar a comprar um produto leve, frágil e de menor qualidade – e de seguida escolhia mais um robusto Majorette da série 200. Hoje, lamento não ter comprado alguns – sobretudo pela ligação com Portugal. Fabricado pela Minia Porto, em Baltar, este Ferrari Testarossa é um modelo aceitável. Apesar da omissão de alguns detalhes, incluindo o volante. Leve e sem suspensão, este modelo não é um bom rolador – decerto para irritação de alguns miúdos nos anos noventa. Por outro lado, o plástico e os detalhes impressos são de boa qualidade e resistentes. Pormenor interessante – em 1994 e 1995, a decoração no "capot" mostra-nos a assinatura "Ferrari" e, acima, o emblema com o "Cavallino Rampante". Em 1996, estes elementos dão lugar à inscrição "Racing" e no emblema a um "S". Um belo "S Rampante". Este automóvel, o Ferrari Testarossa, encontra-se na minha colecção sob o tema "Veículos Italianos". ●

The Novacar series (also Majorette "Série 100") offers at least 19 references, comprising a wide choice of vehicles, from race cars to an American tractor truck. All models combine a plastic body with a metal base. This series, manufactured in Portugal by Minia Porto, is presumably available from 1994 to 1996. Versions and color variants
Reference available in red or yellow, at least two decoration variants. In Brazil, presumably manufactured in Rio de Janeiro, we find Novacar models with specific versions and color variants, of which I do not have the proper listing and description. Necessary corrections or additions to the above are welcome. ●

No Brasil, presumivelmente fabricados no Rio de Janeiro, encontramos modelos Novacar com versões e variantes de cor específicas, dos quais não possuo a devida listagem e descrição. How much?
Several readers have asked me to include the market value of the items described. In fact, and as most collectors will agree – an item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. However, most collectors will also agree on average values, based on objective notions of relevance, scarcity and conservation. Therefore, and as I know that these requests for market values will not stop, I will occasionally include, not necessarily the market value, but rather, based on my perception of the markets over the last thirty years, the value that, hypothetically and at the time of publication, I am willing to pay for the item described. In this case, I will pay up to €5 for a Ferrari Testarossa by Novacar, loose and in good condition, or up to €8 if boxed and in perfect condition. ●
