Norev – Renault Laguna

Scale model of an automobile, the Renault Laguna, made by Norev. This example is reference 224063 ¹, included in the "Renault Toys – Laguna Berline" series. It is made in China. Metal body painted in metallic dark red. Unpainted metal base. Glazing represented in transparent plastic, with details molded in the windshield. Interior details in gray plastic. Plastic wheels, "chrome" rims. With suspension. Opening tailgate. Tow hitch. The nominal scale seems to be 1:57 and the overall length, including tow hitch, is approximately 3.3 in. About 1.9 oz. This model represents an automobile, possibly the 2000 Renault Laguna (II) hatchback. Among other options, the Laguna could come equipped with the 2946 cm³, 152 kW (207 hp) Renault L7X-E731 V6 engine, reaching a top speed of around 146 mph.

Models or toys? How should we consider these little "1:64" scale cars? Personally and for the most part, I consider them toys. For the robustness of their construction and, above all, for the play value. Of course, some are little gems – for the proportions, the finish and the details. But others, like this model from Norev, confuse my judgment. First, I am delighted with the almost perfect proportions, with the stance, with the well-applied paintwork, with the rigorous details, such as the inviting interior or the true-to-prototype rims. But then it disappoints me with a massive "black hole" at the rear, there, where I should have found the tailgate, perfectly detailed with the respective glass. Here, there is no doubt – I am in the presence of a toy and the play value imposes itself. In fact, it has to be admitted, given the design of the tailgate, it would be difficult for a kid to try to open it without resorting to this detail, this trick. And no one would want to see him go on vacation with an empty trunk, leaving his bags on the sidewalk. Furthermore, this Laguna allows driving with a trailer, thus increasing the driving challenge. And it is, without a doubt, a competent roller. Its play value is therefore undeniable – and I'm sure someone at Norev must have carefully weighed each of these options. For me, I was sad – but certainly the details that sadden me allowed endless hours of play for so many kids. And that is always the best choice – and the greatest of all joys. This automobile, the Renault Laguna, is in my collection under the theme "French Vehicles". ●

Carroçaria em metal pintada em vermelho escuro metalizado. Base em metal, sem pintura. Vidros representados em plástico transparente, com detalhes moldados no pára-brisas. Detalhes interiores em plástico cinzento. Rodas em plástico, jantes "cromadas". Com suspensão. Abre a porta traseira. Dispositivo de reboque. A escala nominal parece ser 1:57 e o comprimento total, incluindo o dispositivo de reboque, é de aproximadamente 85 mm. Cerca de 54 g. Este modelo representa um automóvel, possivelmente o Renault Laguna (II) hatchback de 2000. Entre outras opções, o Laguna podia vir equipado com o motor Renault L7X-E731 V6 de 2946 cm³, 152 kW (207 hp), alcançando uma velocidade máxima de cerca de 235 km/h.

Modelos ou brinquedos? Como devemos considerar estes carrinhos na escala do "1:64"? Pessoalmente e na maior parte dos casos, considero-os brinquedos. Pela robustez da sua construção e, sobretudo, pelo valor lúdico. É claro que alguns são pequenas jóias – pelas proporções, pelo acabamento e pelos detalhes. Mas outros, como este modelo da Norev, confundem-me o julgamento. Primeiro, delicia-me com as proporções quase perfeitas, com a postura, com a pintura bem aplicada, com os detalhes rigorosos, como o convidativo interior ou as jantes fiéis ao protótipo. Mas depois desilude-me com um massivo "buraco negro" à retaguarda, ali, onde deveria encontrar a porta traseira, perfeitamente detalhada com o respectivo vidro. Aqui, não há dúvida – estou na presença de um brinquedo e o valor lúdico impõe-se. De facto, é preciso admiti-lo, pelo desenho da porta traseira seria difícil a um miúdo tentar abri-la sem recurso a este detalhe, a este truque. E ninguém desejaria vê-lo a partir para férias com a bagageira vazia, deixando as malas no passeio. Para mais, este Laguna permite circular com um atrelado, aumentando assim o desafio da condução. E é, sem dúvida, um competente rolador. O seu valor lúdico é, pois, inegável – e tenho a certeza de que alguém na Norev deve ter pesado rigorosamente cada uma destas opções. Por mim, fiquei triste – mas decerto que os detalhes que me entristecem possibilitaram intermináveis horas de brincadeira a tantos miúdos. E isso é sempre a melhor escolha – e a maior de todas as alegrias. Este automóvel, o Renault Laguna, encontra-se na minha colecção sob o tema " Veículos Franceses". ●
